Campaign II: An Appeal to Moral Conscience - End US Military Aid to the Israeli Regime
The state of Israel's attacks on innocent people and civilian infrastructure are not only morally unacceptable, they are also in complete violation of International and US law (see US Arms Control and US Foreign Assistance Acts). So why does the general public still consider this regime to be the “victim” in this conflict? If there can be one answer to this question, it is most probably misinformation. The Bush administration is able to support the regime's oppression because many times the general public in the US either does not care about this issue or their perceptions are actively manipulated by the media.
This second campaign focuses on re-framing the images connected to the state of Israel in public perception. We ask you to make general people realize the consequences of the US aid to the state of Israel. Large poster images of the destruction and savage killing in Lebanon next to the images of US supplied weapons and war planes (with Lockheed Martin, Boeing, and Raytheon logos) would be a useful tool to break the current frames in people's minds about the Zionist regime. The activists in Canada and European countries may also find this tool to be very useful in creating even more awareness about the Zionist oppression.
Please do note that this campaign is more focused on changing public perceptions than bringing about any policy changes or influencing the commercial media. It would be ideal if the latter two could be influenced as well, but the primary target of this campaign is informing and appealing to the moral conscience of general public, which by the way also include government officials and media employees.
Action Items !
- Public Demonstration with Large Posters - Gather outside government buildings, offices of state representatives, newspaper/media offices, public libraries, significant stations and bus stops, and university campuses. Have large posters and banners with images of savage death and destruction caused by the state of Israel next to the logos and images of their US supplied weapons.
- Writing Campaign - Hold letter writing sessions in your communities. These could be general gatherings of the whole community, or specific gatherings of only youth or only females. Address these letters to the administration, your state representatives, and/or editors of newspapers and other media outlets. Include touching images of death and destruction from Lebanon and Palestine. Explain how the US aid results in deaths of countless innocent lives and destruction of nations. Also, write opinion editorials for your local newspapers. Be sure to include pictures of the carnage brought about by US military aid. Here are some talking points to help you in your writing.
